Speaker Crackling After Water: Cause & Repair Protocol

Why does your speaker crackle or pop after getting wet? Learn how to clear water bubbles causing static and prevent permanent voice coil damage.

Start audio tests at low volume; stop for distortion. Tones cannot guarantee removal of water or repair internal damage. Do not charge a wet device.

The crackling or static sound is usually NOT blown hardware. Instead, tiny water droplets sit directly on top of the moving speaker cone. As the cone vibrates back and forth, it physically slaps against the water droplet, producing a distinct buzzing, crackling, or sizzle sound.

Expelling the liquid with a 165 Hz tone removes the droplets and stops the crackling immediately.
